Whether you’re a homeowner or preparing to lease or sell a property, our inspections are designed to safeguard your pool, giving you peace of mind. Our customer-focused approach means we go beyond ticking boxes, offering tailored solutions that ensure your pool is compliant while maintaining your property’s safety and value.

Why Queensland Pools Need to Be Certified

Queensland has some of the strictest pool safety regulations in the country to prevent accidental drownings, especially among young children. While homeowners aren’t required to obtain a pool safety certificate unless they are renting or selling their property, all pools must comply with safety standards. Non-compliance can result in penalties or fines. Certification ensures that your pool barriers, fencing, gates, and other safety measures meet the necessary regulations at the time of renting or selling.

When Do You Need a Pool Safety Certificate?

A pool safety certificate is required in Queensland when:

  • Renting or leasing a property with a pool.
  • Selling a property with a pool.

Certificates are valid for two years for non-shared pools (used by one occupier). Certificates are valid for one year for shared pools (used by multiple occupiers, such as in unit complexes or motels). Ensuring a current certificate is available helps protect property owners and pool users.

Our Inspection Process

At Compass Fire & Safety, we follow a thorough process to ensure your pool meets Queensland’s safety standards:

1

Visual Inspection

We assess the pool barrier, fencing, and gates for any physical damage or defects.

2

Compliance Check

We measure the height, strength, and non-climbable zones of fences and barriers to ensure they meet regulations.

3

Gate Functionality

We check that pool gates are self-closing and self-latching and that they open away from the pool area as required by law.

4

Access Points

We ensure there is no direct access from the house or any other building into the pool area without passing through a compliant gate.

5

CPR Signage

We check that an approved CPR sign is clearly displayed in the pool area.

6

Issue of Certification

Once all standards are met, we provide you with a pool safety certificate on the spot. If any issues are found, we offer clear guidance on how to fix them and arrange a follow-up inspection.
